The next installment in Cameron’s beloved sci-fi franchise picks up after the events of Avatar: The Way of Water, following the death of Jake Sully and Neytiri’s eldest son, Neteyam, who was killed by the Resources Development Administration while trying to protect his siblings.
The Sully family’s new threat is the Mangkwan Clan, also known as the Ash People, who have teamed up with Colonel Miles Quaritch. Together, they are hunting the remaining Na’vi and seeking to capture Jake. Returning stars include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet and more.

At the box office, it became the third highest-grossing film of 2025, earning nearly $1.5 billion worldwide, behind Ne Zha 2 ($2.2 billion) and Zootopia 2 ($1.8 billion), according to Box Office Mojo. The film was not only a commercial success but also resonated with audiences. It currently holds an 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Avatar: Fire and Ash will eventually stream on Disney+, where the first two films are currently available. While an official release date has not yet been announced, viewers can likely expect a longer wait than usual. The film’s digital release came roughly 103 days after its theatrical debut, and its Disney+ premiere may follow a similarly extended timeline.
Longer streaming windows aren’t unusual for the Avatar franchise. For example, 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water didn’t arrive on Disney+ until about 5.5 months after its theatrical release. If Fire and Ash follows a similar pattern, the sequel could begin streaming sometime between mid-May and early June. Stay tuned for official updates.
