Hannah St Hotel is oh-so Melbourne, with interiors by local design heavyweights Flack Studio, an intimate produce-led restaurant, and three charming bars, including the lively rooftop Terrace Lounge. Celebrities, roaming creative types, and young professionals all flock to the property, which is situated close to the action on the south side of the Yarra River—an ideal base from which to explore the city. The 188 guest rooms have a midcentury feel, with an orange-and-green palette that’s unmistakably Flack. Coupette, the sole restaurant, offers a tightly curated menu with simply prepared local produce; highlights include the heirloom tomato salad and steak frites. Although there is no spa, the hotel’s top floor is devoted to health and fitness, with a well-appointed gym, a 66-foot lap pool, a steam room, and a sauna. Service is akin to what you’d get at a smaller boutique property, and the friendly, inquisitive staff members manage to keep their cool during busy check-in and check-out times.
