World’s first Minecraft World opening at Chessington in 2027

There’s big news for gamers and families: a fully immersive Minecraft theme park is officially on its way to Chessington World of Adventures – and it’s set to open in 2027.

Merlin Entertainments is partnering with Mojang Studios to bring the iconic block-built universe to the real world. The new Minecraft World will be the first-ever theme park land inspired by the best-selling Minecraft game, marking the next major step for Chessington, following its recently announced Paw Patrol-themed land opening this year.

We already have early details on what visitors can expect from the new Minecraft-themed land, including confirmed attractions and how the experience will bring the “Overworld” to life.

Below, you’ll find everything we know so far about Minecraft World, including rides, opening timelines and what to expect.

The £50m investment is one of Chessington’s biggest developments in recent years. Minecraft World will bring the game’s most recognisable features into physical form, from biomes and mobs to interactive elements designed for all ages.

In the official press release, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, senior creative director of entertainment at Minecraft, said: “We’re thrilled to have partnered with Merlin Entertainments to realise a place where you can literally be in the Minecraft Overworld and have an adventure of your own with your family and friends.”

Visitors can expect:

  • A world-first Minecraft rollercoaster
  • Interactive adventures and immersive experiences
  • Block-built play areas for younger guests
  • Themed shops and dining inspired by the game

The aim is to create a space where families can “play, explore and craft together”, just like in the game itself.

As with the Paw Patrol land, Chessington World of Adventures typically complements its themed rides and attractions with matching bedrooms in its on-site Safari Hotel. Nothing has been confirmed yet but it’s possible the resort could introduce Minecraft-themed rooms for overnight stays.

Confirmed rides

While full ride details are still to come, one major attraction has already been confirmed: the Minecraft coaster. This flagship ride is inspired by the adventurous nature of the Minecraft game. Exact details remain under wraps for now but it’s already shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated features of the new themed attraction.

Alongside the coaster, guests can expect a mix of interactive experiences and play zones designed to reflect the creativity and unpredictability of the Minecraft universe.

The only confirmed ride so far is the Minecraft coaster, which is expected to be a high-energy ride

Opening dates and tickets

Minecraft World is set to open in 2027, though an exact launch date has yet to be confirmed.

In the meantime, Chessington is open for its 2026 season with nearly 50 per cent off pre-booked tickets. Booking online is the cheapest way to visit, with on-the-gate prices costing nearly twice as much as those bought online.

With millions of players worldwide, Minecraft is one of the most recognisable games ever created, and this marks a major step in bringing it beyond the screen.

It also follows a growing trend of theme parks investing in immersive, franchise-led experiences, including Paulton Park’s Peppa Pig World, Thomas (the Tank Engine) Land at Drayton Manor Resort and, of course, Chessington’s upcoming Land of Paw Patrol, giving visitors the chance to step directly into the worlds they love.

For UK families, having a globally recognised gaming brand arrive at a local theme park is a big moment, and one that’s likely to make Chessington an even more popular destination in the coming years.
