The UK’s largest indoor waterpark is undergoing a £500,000 refurbishment.
Blackpool’s Sandcastle Waterpark first opened on the town’s promenade in 1986 and has a “tropical 84 degree climate” year-round.
On 22 March, the waterpark announced on Facebook that “phase one of our Changing Village refurbishment is complete.”
Planned improvements include the renovation of the park’s changing room facilities, painting the slides and the installation of new audio systems.
According to the Facebook post, phase two is already underway and “set to be completed by Easter”.
With more than 18 slides and attractions, including the 200-metre-long Master Blaster, Sandcastle is the UK’s largest indoor waterpark.
Tickets for a three-hour general admission session start from £24.95 per person for adults and children over eight years old.
General manager Kyle Woodcock said, “This is a landmark year for us, and we wanted to mark our 40th birthday with improvements that our guests will really feel,” reported BBC News.
Elsewhere, the UK’s first Universal Studios theme park was given planning permission to begin construction in December.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) approved the plans through a special development order (SDO), which enables the government to bypass standard local planning procedures.
The park, which is expected to open in 2031, is situated on a 700-acre site in Kempston, Hardwick, Bedfordshire.
Government forecasts predict that the theme park will attract more than eight million annual visitors and provide a £50bn boost to the British economy.
Universal claims the attraction will create 20,000 jobs in the construction phase, and 8,000 operational roles once up and running.
