‘Why not charter a yacht instead?’: Royal Caribbean’s new ‘treehouse’ suite costs up to $375,000

Royal Caribbean has revealed its “treehouse” suite for mega ship Hero of the Seas that will cost up to $375,000 for nine nights, or around $41,666 per night.

The “first-of-its-kind” suite features three floors complete with a rooftop terrace, a two-deck teen hideout, two main bedrooms each with their own bathroom and balcony, and a private whirlpool.

It accommodates 12, which means the price per person for the most expensive $375,000 sailing, even at full capacity, would still be an eye-watering $31,250.

Despite the eye-catching features and space — and the fact there’s only one treehouse suite on the ship — commenters took to a Royal Caribbean forum on Reddit to express their shock at the pricing, and the concept.

One asked: “Is this for the ultra-wealthy to experience a human safari at sea?” While another stated: “I would rather buy an actual house.”

“I feel like people with this kind of money would charter a yacht instead,” was also posted.

However, some contributors pointed out that the ultra-wealthy might book the suite to help keep their kids happy, as cruise ships are packed with features and experiences, from water parks to theater shows.

One remarked: “I went on a yacht one time, and my kids were bored to tears. But they love cruises.”

Hero of the Seas launches in 2027, with the $375,000 price point applicable for a December 30 sailing from Miami to the Caribbean.

As Royal Caribbean Blog, pointed out, much cheaper treehouse prices are available during the slower cruising seasons.

For example, on the December 11, 2027, sailing, it costs $90,000 in total.

Hero of the Seas will join Legend of Seas, launching this summer, and Icon and Star, which are already sailing.

Michael Bayley, chief executive of Royal Caribbean, said: “Icon Class truly set a new standard for family vacations, and Hero of the Seas takes that vision even further.

“With more water, more thrills and more choices for all ages, we’re continuing to build on what our guests love about Royal Caribbean and delivering the experiences families are looking for when vacationing together.”
